Paintwork

Britannia's maintenance team have recently completed work on the fo'c'sle, the forward most deck of the Yacht.  The team removed any areas of rust before applying a primer and an undercoat.  Any uneven surfaces were also levelled using filler.  All that remains is for them to apply gloss paint to the Capstans and the Scotsman plates.  When Britannia was in service the Capstans lifted the anchor out of the water rather than the Yachtsmen having to pull it up by hand.  The Scotsman plates are steel plates under the anchor chain which were orginally placed there to protect the deck when the anchor was weighed or dropped.

The repainting of the port side of the hull has also begun.  However, before the paint could be applied, the hull has to prepped to ensure that the paint adhered.  This involved sanding down the existing coat and refilling any holes.  The picture below shows part of the hull during the preparatory stage.

Once the sanding was complete the paint was then applied.  Masking tape was used to ensure that Britannia's distinctive gold trim remained untouched.
