Restoration work underway for the boats
We are currently working on the portside to restore two of Britannia’s boats (Fleet Motor Launches – FML’s) these were used by the Admiral and Officers. This has involved erecting scaffold to ensure easy access and safe working conditions for our Maintenance team without the need to close off or alter the visitor route whilst this work is in progress. We are stripping off old paint from the white structure back to the gel coat, applying filler if required and re-applying coats of white undercoat and gloss, stripping off the old varnish from the woodwork and re-varnishing. The hull will be sanded and new coats of the distinctive Britannia blue paint applied. The work is expected to be finished by the end of September and we are looking forward to seeing the end result.
October 2008 - this work is now complete, the boats are looking fabulous and we are ready for our next project.
