Royal Barge Project Almost Complete

We are really pleased with our restoration of the Royal Barge. The team worked really hard on all stages of the project.

All the external fittings were removed, labelled and stored. We removed the old varnish and sanded the wood. We stained the wood and then gave it eight coats of varnish.

We filled and sanded areas where required before applying two undercoats, followed by four top coats, with each coat being given a light sand before the next one was applied.

The hull is looking great after one undercoat and two top coats. The two hull crests were removed, repainted and gold leafed and put back.

Where possible the internal woodwork was re-varnished.  We washed, ironed and put back the curtains and then cleaned and fitted any removed fittings.

We are just waiting for one final piece of the chromework to be put back on and the Royal Barge will be looking as good as new!
