Bloodhound soon to set sail

In just over a week's time, Royal Racing Yacht Bloodhound will make her annual journey to Oban, where she will be available for day sailing around the stunning scenery of Scotland's Western Isles this July and August.

Once owned by Her Majesty The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh in the 1960s, this beautiful, classic 1930s ocean-racing yacht also taught a young Prince Charles and Princess Anne how to sail.

They enjoyed it so much that the Princess Royal continues to visit the Western Isles at least once a year, as she told Scottish Field recently: 'Sailing on the West Coast started with Britannia in the early days, but also with my father on Bloodhound, which could go into the islands a bit more'.

Not only was Bloodhound used for family holidays, she was also one of the most successful ocean-racing yachts ever built, winning scores of races in the south of England, even crossing the Atlantic to compete in Bermuda.

On the back of this outstanding race history, she was acquired by the Royal Family in 1962 and The Duke of Edinburgh successfully competed on her at the famous Cowes Week Regatta around the Isle of Wight.

Today, the same crew of Royal Yachtsmen who looked after the Royal Family aboard Bloodhound return to the yacht each year to look after our guests who book a day sail. Departing from Oban Marina, up to 8 guests can enjoy this truly unique experience, taking in the breath taking scenery of the Western Isles.

The landscape is dominated by rugged coastline and stunning mountains, alongside crystal clear waters and sandy beaches.

Also known for its abundant wildlife, guests can look out for dolphins, seals, puffins, gannets and sea eagles en route.

For any guests wishing to add to this adventure, we have also partnered with the exclusive Cameron House Hotel for 2013 to offer an extraordinary experience.

Following a stay at the hotel on the banks of Loch Lomond, the hotel's sea plane will take guests to Oban the following morning, experiencing some of the best views in Scotland on the way. You can read more about this opportunity here.

To experience this once in a lifetime opportunity, please contact our events team. We still have availability on the following dates: 10, 12, 19, 22 and 24 July and 7, 14 August should you wish to book for 2013.

You can hear Royal Yachtsman, Paul Collins, talk about his time on Bloodhound when she was owned by the Royal Family and why he's so delighted to still be a member of her crew today on this short video:
