A day in the life of: Britannia’s Housekeeping team

The Royal Yacht Britannia's proud housekeeping team work 363 days of the year to ensure this magnificent ship is kept in immaculate condition. No easy task, but our dedicated team ensure every area of the ship is washed, dusted, hoovered and polished to perfection, ready for Britannia's visitors and evening events guests.

A typical day for Housekeeping Team Leader, Linda, starts at 6.00am on the Verandah Deck. Britannia's bell is polished and left sparkling, ready for our visitors to have their photograph taken at this iconic spot.

Next stop is the Sun Lounge and Royal Apartments, where the furniture is dusted, brass is polished, and viewing windows are left spotless.

Finally, the Crew's Quarters are attended to and every room, from the Chief Petty Officers' Mess, to the Sick Bay and Laundry Room are cleaned and ready for the day's visitors.

Meanwhile, the rest of the team tend to every other part of the visitor experience, from the Visitor Centre and Gift Shop, to the lift tower and over 8 bathrooms on the tour route. They may be found cleaning the red carpet for an evening event, tending to the beautiful plants and flowers on the quayside, or ensuring the Rolls Royce Phantom V is gleaming in its onboard garage.

This week, our Photographer in Residence caught up with the team for a few hours to find out how they keep Britanniaship shape….
