HMS Edinburgh had a spectacular send off as she left Edinburgh for the final time on Tuesday, 21st May, to travel to Portsmouth for her decommissioning. Known as the 'Fortress of the Sea,' it only seemed fitting that Britannia, the 'Palace of the Sea,' should be the ship to give her a historic goodbye as she left Leith docks. The farewell was made extra special as it coincided with Britannia's Yotties Week, with over 70 former Royal Yachtsmen back aboard for their annual working party.
The Yotties lined the decks, along with visitors and members of the Britannia team, to wave goodbye as music was played by the Band of Her Majesty's Royal Marines. Local Sea Cadets joined them on the pontoon by Britannia as HMS Edinburgh sailed away for one final time. If you missed the occasion, don't worry - we captured it on film for you to enjoy.
