December is a great time of year to visit Scotland’s capital city, with chilly temperatures, but often sunny crisp days, it’s a lovely time to explore and get you in the festive spirit. Princes Street Gardens are always a hive of activity, with a Big Wheel, beautiful vintage carousel, 60-metre-high Star Flyer, Santa Land and ice rink. Visit The Dome on George Street, which is always beautifully decorated, both inside and out, or one of the many coffee shops selling festive flavoured coffees and hot chocolates to warm you up whilst taking in the sights.
There are festive markets, including the European Market at the bottom of the Mound, where your senses will come alive with wafts of mulled wine and spicy German sausages. A Scottish Market in St Andrew Square will showcase the best food and drink that Scotland has to offer. The Children’s Market within Santa Land in Princes Street Gardens will be the perfect place to pick up gifts for the kids.
The Street of Light will once again take place, but this time on George Street. It is on from 21st November – 24th December and with music from local bands and choirs and over 60,000 lights, it’s sure to be spectacular.
