Best Year Ever 2016

A record 348,272 visitors were welcomed on board Britannia in 2016, making it our most successful year since opening.

Our Chief Executive, Bob Downie is thrilled! He said, “This is simply brilliant. To produce record visitor numbers 18 years after first opening is a triumph, and a real tribute to our great staff who work enormously hard to ensure that all visitors to Britannia have a great experience and value for time and money.”

We are also proud to have been named Scotland’s Best Attraction for the 11th year running by our national tourist board, VisitScotland. Bob Downie added that “this is a truly amazing achievement and one that I doubt will ever be repeated.”

2016 was an extraordinary year as we marked Her Majesty The Queen’s 90th birthday with a stunning fireworks display on Thursday 21 April. To celebrate, selections of The Queen’s favourite dishes were served in The Royal Deck Tea Room including Her Majesty’s favourite cocktail garnished with edible diamonds. The Musical Mariners’ Band played on board, several of whom served on Britannia. We offered free entry to people who share their birthday with The Queen and sold exclusive commemorative china in our Gift Shop.

Britannia supported a number of British artisans and brands during 2016, including Pickerings Gin, Highland Chocolatier, Transcal, Pashley Cycles, Jennie Maizels, Lizzie’s Tea Party and Merrythought.

In June, we surpassed another notable milestone having now welcomed over 5 million visitors on board since opening in 1998. In fact, since 2010 our visitor numbers are up by a massive 41.7%, a huge achievement for everyone involved.
