Environmental, Safety & Health (ESH) Manager
Hours: Work pattern 5 days usually Mon – Fri (working 1 weekend in 6) Hours normally 08:30 – 16:30 (but may occasionally vary to suit the needs of the business)
Duration: Permanent
Pay: £38,200 per annum

As our ESH Manager, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring an environmentally responsible workplace with a culture of safety, health, and wellbeing.
As the ESH Manager you will develop outstanding relationships with internal and external customers, partners, and community stakeholders to promote and foster a culture where the environment, safety and health are at the forefront of everything that we do. The ESH Manager will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining programs that minimise our impact on the environment, promote workplace safety and wellbeing. This role requires an initiative-taking approach, effective communication skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively across all departments and levels of the business.
Key Responsibilities:
Environmental Stewardship:
- Develop and implement environmental management systems throughout our company.
- Own the ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) roadmap and report back to the management team on progress via regular updates.
- Ensure that we continue to enhance our Green Keys journey by creating initiatives and policies which meet the stringent requirements of this award.
- Ensure compliance with local, and national environmental regulations.
- Help continue our mission to “do no harm” and become a net zero business in the near future.
- Champion best practice sustainability initiatives within the organisation.
Safety and Health:
- Develop and update safety policies, procedures, and training programs which meet legal requirements and promote best practice across the company.
- Support, train and coach Directors and Managers to enable them to fulfil their H&S duties and create a work environment where safety is everyone’s responsibility and focus.
- Undertake companywide risk assessments, safety audits, incident investigations; and report back to the management team on deficiencies and good practice.
- Assist managers to establish and conduct departmental risk assessments, safety audits, and incident investigations.
- Work with the management team to create robust plans which cover fire, terrorism, and other significant threats.
- Monitor compliance with safety, occupational health, fire, and security regulations and ensure that any deficiencies are identified quickly and actioned.
- Work in collaboration with the Human Resources Team to address employee wellbeing.
- Assist in the completion of accident investigation reports and any insurance claims should they arise.
- Promote a safety-first mindset among employees and contractors.
- Engage with contractors and department managers to ensure that they are properly inducted and fulfil their statutory obligations and our requirements.
- Coordinate the quarterly Health & Safety meeting with all stakeholders
Training and Education:
- Conduct regular ESH training sessions for employees and contractors.
- Lead the Green Committee and work with, and coach them to raise awareness about all aspects of ESG relevant to our company. Provide guidance on best practices for ESH compliance.
- Foster a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
Reporting and Analytics:
- Maintain accurate and updated records related to safety incidents, environmental performance, and health monitoring.
- Ensure all accident and incidents are reported and recorded correctly and escalated as required for follow up.
- Prepare regular reports for management, the wider team, and for regulatory bodies as required.
- Analyse data to identify trends and areas for improvement.
Qualifications:
- NEBOSH General Certificate (essential) and willingness to work towards a Diploma in Health & Safety Management the course fees of which the company will fund
- Environmental qualification (desirable).
- Experience in Health and Safety management, risk assessment, and regulatory compliance in either an industrial or public facing organisation.
- Strong people skills and the ability to influence change.
