Weekly Snaps
3 January 2025
Photography has always played an important role on Britannia. While she was in service, there was always a 'Yottie' appointed, nicknamed 'Snaps', to take photographs of life aboard the Royal Yacht.
In keeping with this tradition, we now have our own Photographer in Residence, Ruth McQuiggan, who has been capturing our very own Weekly 'Snaps' - a collection of snapshots of life around the ship today.
This week we look back over the past year aboard Britannia, sharing highlights from 2024.

A favourite spot for visitors to take a photo remains by The Royal Yacht Britannia's Bell and decorative compass binnacle.

On a beautiful, sunny day, the Verandah Deck was the perfect place to pose for a photo with friends and family.

Keeping the handrails throughout Britannia's tour route gleaming every day has been a big job! Housekeeping Team Leader, Carol, was snapped working hard to keep them gleaming.

The Housekeeping and Maintenance teams work 363 days of the year to keep Britannia shipshape. Billy, Facilities Officer, continued this work, dusting on a sunny day.

A visitor looked on as Executive Pastry Chef, Stephen, and Junior Sous Chef, Bob, prepared petits fours with delightful yuzu and matcha tea fillings for an exclusive use event.

The Bridge, the main control point of Britannia, was the heart of command as the ship sailed all over the world.

Following maintenance works, Prince Philip’s former Royal Racing Yacht Bloodhound was berthed alongside Britannia.

The Britannia Cuddly Corgi Treasure Hunt was a hit with visitors of all ages. Did you spot them all?

Adding a splash of fun to the bathtub, the adorable Admiral rubber ducks flew off the shelves of the Britannia Gift Shop.

The handrails are a long term maintenance job for the team as they remove, sand, varnish and replace the handrails, maintaining the ship for future generations.

Yottie, Bob, a former Leading Marine Engineering Mechanic, piped in the pristine Engine Room during the annual Yotties' week.

Chris, Navigators Yeoman aka Pilot Bridge, relived his role as the Yotties chatted with visitors and told fascinating stories of life during Royal service.

In The Lighthouse Restaurant & Bar, the seasonal menus offered the best of Scotland's larder, in both the five-course Afternoon Tea and 2 AA Rosette dining.
