To celebrate the second birthday of HRH Prince George, The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s son, The Royal Yacht Britannia organised a ‘Design a Royal Cupcake’ competition - with spectacular results!
We invited school pupils in Edinburgh, the Lothians and Fife to create a colourful cupcake design for our on board Trainee Baker Victoria to transform into stunning 3D cupcakes in time for Prince George’s birthday.
The children took to their pens, pencils, glitter and glue and did us proud - we were delighted and overwhelmed to receive over 1,000 entries to the competition! The really hard job, however, was choosing our winners (we had two categories, primary 1-3 & primary 4-7). It was difficult to narrow down a shortlist from so many entries, but after much deliberation, we chose our two winning designs which are pictured below:
Meng Ting He, aged 6, from Lorne Primary School, Edinburgh
Niamh Headon, aged 10, from St Leonards Junior School, St Andrews
Victoria worked hard on the intricate icing decorations for the cupcakes which were on display on Prince George’s birthday, Wednesday 22nd July, in Britannia's State Dining Room.
We welcomed our winners on board to see the cupcakes on display, and they each received a goody bag and a box full of their delicious designs to take home and munch! In addition, our winners are invited to bring their school friends for a class trip during the autumn term.
A selection of the shortlisted entries are shown below. Well done and thank you to everyone who entered!
