Up and down the country, people are looking forward to celebrating Her Majesty’s official 90th birthday this June. And, having played such an important role in The Queen’s life, Britannia is also excited to be celebrating The Queen’s 90th birthday year in style.
We’ve got music, cocktails and delicious dishes - not to mention free cake and fizz - and we’d love you to come and join our party!
For over 40 years, Britannia sailed a million times around the world and was an ambassador for Great Britain and the Commonwealth. The Queen once described the Royal Yacht as ‘the one place I can truly relax’ and if you visit on Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 June, we’re sure you’ll be able to see why.
As well as taking the tour, walking in the footsteps of Royalty and soaking up the regal atmosphere, you’ll also be able to enjoy all the special treats we’ve got planned.
Join us in the Royal Deck Tea Room where we will be serving up some of The Queen’s favourite dishes. The special menu is available all weekend and includes Balmoral Leek & Potato Soup, Cucumber Sandwiches, Coronation Chicken Sandwiches and Chocolate Perfection Pie. You can also raise your glass to the monarch with a delicious Dubonnet Cocktail! Cheers!
On Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 June, to coincide with Her Majesty's celebrations in Edinburgh, you can enjoy some complimentary cake and fizz - a fantastic way to celebrate the day in the capital.
Rather fittingly, our cakes are being specially created by Edinburgh bespoke baker Lizzie's Tea Party. You can watch a video of Lizzie making cakes for our April celebrations here. Each cake is topped with a commemorative chocolate by The Highland Chocolatier.
On both days we will have a jazz trio who will be performing the American Songbook from 1-4pm on Britannia’s Veranda Deck, weather permitting. We’re sure the sun will shine! Britannia's resident pianist will also be playing the grand piano once played by Princess Diana and Noel Coward.
If you really feel like celebrating in style, why not come along in your best party outfit? Look out your favourite dress or suit and join us for the festivities.
What’s more, if your birthday falls on The Queen’s birthday weekend you can come aboard Britannia for free! Simply show proof of your birth date when purchasing your tickets.
How are people celebrating elsewhere?
On Friday June 10, a service of thanksgiving will be held at St Paul’s Cathedral in London to begin the weekend of celebrations for Her Majesty’s official birthday. This will be broadcast live on television. Friday June 10 is also the Duke of Edinburgh’s 95th birthday!
On Saturday June 11, The Queen’s official birthday will be marked, as it has been every year, with the traditional military parade known as Trooping the Colour. This will be televised, too.
Her Majesty will travel by carriage from Buckingham Palace to inspect her personal troops in Horse Guards Parade in a ceremony which will begin at 10am. The Royal family will then appear on the balcony of the palace to watch a fly-past at 1pm. It’s a great chance to see the family, all dressed up for this truly special occasion.
On Sunday June 12, The Mall outside Buckingham Palace will be transformed for its biggest ever street party, The Patron’s Lunch, to celebrate The Queen’s patronage of over 600 charities and organisations. 600! Wow.
Most of the 10,000 tickets have been given to the charities and organisations of which The Queen is patron. There will be picnic hampers for guests and some great entertainment, which will also be shown on large screens in St James’s Park and Green Park.
Her Majesty will be joined by the Duke of Edinburgh and other members of the Royal Family including The Duke of Cambridge and HRH Prince Harry.
Up and down the country, people will be holding their own street parties to raise money for their own communities and local initiatives. If you’ve nothing planned though, don’t worry - that’s why we are having a party! Join us aboard Britannia. We look forward to seeing you over this very special weekend.
