Centenary of The Birth of Queen Elizabeth II
Why settle for an ordinary day out when you could dive into history aboard not only a ship but the last British Royal Yacht in the world and choose a place close to the heart of Queen Elizabeth II, this year marking 100 years since her birth.
From the crown to the crew, come rain or shine, we’re an all-weather visit, with a refreshing breath of fresh sea air in between each of the five decks which you can explore at your pace.
The State Apartments feel as if the longest reigning monarch left only moments ago with floral arrangements featuring some of her favourite flowers on display during her birthday month. Britannia played a special part in the life of Queen Elizabeth II for over 40 years, the late monarch describing Britannia as ‘the one place I can truly relax’. A retrospective of her life, beautiful British Pathé footage of Queen Elizabeth II will play on TV screens throughout the ship.
Below decks, hard work and the camaraderie of the crew powered this Royal Navy ship, a crew who still to this day speak so fondly of their time aboard, calling Britannia home. A top spot for the crew, the onboard sweet shop, the NAAFI, have created an exclusive new chocolate biscuit fudge to mark the centenary, inspired by Queen Elizabeth II’s favourite pudding, Chocolate Biscuit Cake. Make sure you stop by for a sweet sample!
A real highlight for many of our visitors, look into the Engine Room where you can almost hear the hum of the machinery, gleaming just as it did when the ship sailed around the world.
Head to the Royal Deck Tearoom to sit in the very same spot where deck games were played, with your delicious treats tasting all the better as you look out over the waterfront views in the port. See if you can choose from hearty soups, filling sandwiches, slices of cake and golden scones ready to be topped with jam and clotted cream, all made by the chefs in the onboard Royal Galley.
Bring your curiosity for the ship’s stories shared in 36 languages through an audio guide, BSL/ASL tablet and Braille script. There’s something for all ages, keep your little landlubbers entertained with a children’s version of the audio tour, available in English, French, Italian, German and Spanish.
Everyone is welcome at Britannia, with lifts and ramps installed to allow easy, relaxed access between and around each of the highly accessible decks. Our team of knowledgeable, welcoming guides are on hand throughout the ship, ready to take photos for the perfect holiday snap, or share the ship’s facts and stories. We really do love to make your day special.
Take a memento home with the Centenary China Collection by The Royal Collection, limited edition coin, magnet and tea towels, as well as exclusive souvenirs in our Shop.
What’s even better, an Annual Pass is included with your ticket, so you can come back for free for 12 months. Return to discover more of the ship or just to try a different slice of cake, we can confirm they are all mouth-wateringly good!
Just a short tram ride from the city centre, there’s free car parking too.
